Mike Garibaldi, a professional
Sculptor since 1987, is the creative and guiding force behind the public sculpture group EvolveArts - his life's
work and ongoing creative vehicle. In 1990 Garibaldi formed EvolveArts to bring provocative sculpture projects out of
galleries and museums and into open, public spaces for everyone to enjoy and interpret. Today, EvolveArts is
becoming a varied arts force in itself-- providing an arts forum on the Internet, contributing to other contemporary
artists and presenting thought provoking art to millions in busy metropolitan areas and via mass media. EvolveArts
installations catalyze action and stimulate thoughtful and positive attention on important social issues by bringing
art, politics and media together in constructive forums.
To date, Garibaldi has sculpted seven life-sized statues for the Rising installation, over
fifty giant 3 1/2 ft. sand dollars for the Dollars for the Environment project and is currently working on eleven 8 X 9
foot screens with quotes and lifecast faces on them for the Dialogue project. While
continually expanding the scope of these existing projects, he has also designed at least five new projects addressing
issues ranging from homelessness to race relations. In addition to lifesized statuary, Garibaldi also creates
sculpture pieces from found objects such as one of his favorite mediums: sea shells. His work can be found in
collections throughout the United States.
Garibaldi graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with honors in the Social Sciences where he
focused on studies in art, politics and the media. During this time, Garibaldi spent a University semester traveling
to various countries in Europe where he studied art and culture.
Garibaldi has explored art and culture throughout
the world, but most of his technical training has been acquired through innovation, experimentation and personal
experience. As an innovative, up-and-coming contemporary artist, Garibaldi is quickly gaining critical acclaim from
patrons, media and community members alike for his unique and creative vision.
While growing-up I was surrounded by art and the ideal of "living life artfully."
This means living each day with enjoyment and appreciating the good and beauty of the world. Everyone experiences
adversity - we all know life can be a struggle - but I feel that through art, friends, family and other personal
avenues we can transcend the trials of life and live with true understanding, hope and pleasure... with romance. As
provincial Italians would say, "Spretzaturra!" (meaning, the art of being artful). This is the spirit I'd like to
cultivate... " - Mike Garibaldi
